Meet Laurie

Dr. Laurie Benton serves as the Education and Training Coordinator at AmWell Group PLLC, where she plays a key role in shaping the growth and development of interns and trainees. With a longstanding commitment to clinical excellence, ethical practice, and trauma-informed care, Dr. Benton designs and oversees comprehensive training workshops that work to enhance the intern's educational experience. These trainings add significant value to the development of skills required to serve diverse communities with competency, sensitivity, and professionalism.

Dr. Benton brings more than two decades of experience as a licensed Clinical Psychologist in Illinois, with expertise in both clinical and forensic mental health care. Her deep involvement in education, supervision, and direct therapeutic work enhances her ability to guide and mentor emerging clinicians. She has provided individual, family, and group therapy to adults, children, and adolescents, particularly those impacted by chronic trauma, maltreatment, and systemic stressors. Her trauma-informed approach remains central to the trainings and workshops she develops at AmWell Group.

In addition to her private practice in Grayslake, Illinois, Dr. Benton has served as an Associate Professor in the Forensic Psychology Department at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology since 2004. She has also worked extensively with court-involved populations, offering services such as reunification therapy, co-parenting counseling, supervised visitation, and psychological assessment. Her experience leading diagnostic testing programs and supervising both practicum students and pre-doctoral interns has directly informed her thoughtful, developmentally attuned approach to providing training classes to clinicians at AmWell Group.

Dr. Benton also serves as a Clinical Supervisor in the Integrated Assessment Program with DCFS, where she supervises and conducts comprehensive forensic assessments for families in care. Her earlier work at Allendale Association focused on treating children and adolescents with severe emotional and behavioral disorders resulting from complex trauma—an experience that shaped her enduring commitment to trauma-responsive care and therapeutic innovation.

Through her leadership at AmWell Group, Dr. Benton integrates her background in clinical practice, education, and forensic mental health to create a collaborative and supportive training environment.
